Two Morgan Giles HDMLs were captured by German Forces during the evacuation of Tolbruk in 1942.
Two Minesweepers were built by Morgan Giles in the 1950s as part of a NATO programme to counter mines, which it was believed would be laid by the Soviet Union in western European coastal and inshore waters in the event of a war.
1960 Used in her intended drole as an Inshore Minesweeper by he Admiralty
1967 Purchased by the Port of London Authority and converted for use as a Survey Vessel and renamed 'MAPLIN' after a sandbank on the North Shore of the Thames Estuary.
1990 Sold and commenced conversion to a private yacht.
2022 Reported as named MV Maplin and converted to a houseboat. Purchased and currently undergoing refurbishment at St Osyth, near Clacton-on-Sea.
